Remember those dynamic harmonies from the 4th of July Mainstage? They will be back for a whole show here at Crazy Crow...
Can you believe we had perfect summer weather twice in a row? It was just the right evening for music on the Slough.
And as usual there was time during intermission to chat with the performers...
...as well as enjoy another assortment of Susan's wonderful desserts.
[Super-sekrit message to performers: email the photographer; she has a couple other photos to share with you.]
First lured to Southwest Florida as a freelance photographer in the early 80's Cindy made up her mind in 1986 to stay after driving through the mysterious Fakahatchee Strand one afternoon and seeing both a black bear and a bobcat cross her path.
For most of her life in Florida, Cindy has worked through journalism to bring awareness to the importance of preserving both the natural environment and traditional Florida lifestyles.
Beginning in the early 1990s she also returned to her first love, songwriting. Her themes center on wild places and wild folks: some are poignant, others playful. She accompanies her voice with acoustic guitar and her style ranges from country folk to blues-folk, along with a genre of her own invention: sawgrass.
Cindy play local venues in Collier and Lee Countires and the South Florida Folk Festival..
Cindy recorded her first CD, Gator in a Slough, in 2001 and is presently working on a second compilation of original Florida tunes,
Sally Shuffield from Colorado
Folk/roots songwriter, Sally Shuffield’s, songs take the listener on a journey through the west of the 1800s, small town America, the emotions . of love and loss, motherhood, the politics of war, and the search for meaning and redemption in every day life. Her music draws upon a vast life experience from her master’s degree in anthropology, to her former career in the environmental/nonprofit arena, to motherhood. She calls Durango, Colorado, home and draws inspiration from the beauty and serenity of small town mountain living
Charted on the FAR Charts, 2007; Charted on the Folk DJ Charts, 2006; KRCL Founder's Title Songwriting Finalist, 2006; Avalonfest Songwriting Finalist, 2005; Southpark Music Festival Showcase Selection, 2005; San Juan NF Artist in Residence, 2004; Silverton Jubilee Songwriting Finalist, 2003
Sally’s performance consists of her original songs, intertwined with stories of the cultures of different regions. Growing up in Arkansas, she experienced her grandparents’ rural roots and their connection to the land. Many of her songs are about this region, and the stories she tells to accompany her songs are filled with Arkansas personalities and characters from the Depression days. to the Baptist bible town where she was raised. Her songs also tell the story of a modern day migrant to the west, rambling through western mining towns, the canyons of Utah, and the mountains of Colorado, trying to discover a new identity like so many other people who have left their roots to fall in love with the freedom of the west. According to No Depression Magazine, “Although she shares a regional home with other Ozark angel, Iris Dement, Shuffield’s decades long stay in the west has tinged her song-writing with themes of coyotes and canyons, as well as lost love and rambling songs.”
Sally tours regionally and nationally, sometimes solo and sometimes with mandolin accompaniment, playing well known concert series, festivals, and house concerts. She has received glowing reviews, a wide base of support, and radio play on over 100 radio stations nationally and overseas. Most recently "Something in the Water" charted nationally on the FAR Charts and the Folk DJ Charts.

"Make a Baby" and interactive performance is a scenario for performance using homemade hardware and software to initiate, monitor, and meaningfully interpret the transfer of data through skin contact between multiple people..
Participants pick up a carrier signal---line level audio at set frequencies in a series of digital feedback loops..through contact with conductive fabric sensors. By touching other participants on the skin the signal is transferred at varying impedance levels.. a direct result of minute variations in the quality to touch from gently brushing to fully grasping. When the varying impedance is measure, a map of the physical interaction is created by the software and used as control data for visualizaiton and sonification..
